Object retrieval through observational learning in 8- to 18-month-old infants.
Observational learning was studied in 8-, 10-, 12-, 15- and 18-month-old infants. Using object-retrieval tasks of relatively comparable difficulty for each age group, we showed that between 10 and 12 months there is a change in the capacity to learn a new skill by observation.
متن کاملMimicry Enhances Observational Learning in 16-Month-Old Infants
We examined the effect of mimicry on how 16-month-old infants learn by observation a novel tool use action, which consisted of using a rake to retrieve a toy. Across four conditions, we manipulated whether during an initial play phase, an adult mimicked the infant's play or not (testing the effect of mimicry), the infant played with the adult or played alone (controlling the effect of interacti...
متن کاملAssessment of sleep status in 6 to 18-month-old infants consuming cerealc
Introduction: Sleep is particularly important in children because it affects their physical and mental evolution. Sleep disorders are seen in 20% to 30% of children. Cereal is being distributed as one of the complementary foods at the pharmacies in Iran. This study is designed to study the sleep status of cereal-consuming infants in order to take a step forward in improving cereal prescribing. ...
متن کاملVerb Learning in 14- and 18-Month-Old English- Learning Infants
The present study investigates English-learning infants’ early understanding of the link between the grammatical category verb and the conceptual category event, and their ability to recruit morphosyntactic information online to learn novel verb meanings. We report two experiments using an infant-controlled Habituation-Switch Paradigm. In Experiment 1, we habituated 14and 18month-old infants wi...
متن کاملLearning about causes from people: observational causal learning in 24-month-old infants.
How do infants and young children learn about the causal structure of the world around them? In 4 experiments we investigate whether young children initially give special weight to the outcomes of goal-directed interventions they see others perform and use this to distinguish correlations from genuine causal relations--observational causal learning. In a new 2-choice procedure, 2- to 4-year-old...
